The National Convention - Part Three
Civilization, like life, is in a perpetual struggle
with death. And as life maintains itself through
metamorphosis and other adaptations, by abandoning the
old and recasting itself in younger and fresher forms,
so societies achieve a precarious survival, by adapting
their political and social content.
It is proposed that all non-governmental
organizations that have demonstrated an allegiance to
American Society, be mobilized. Some of these
organizations and groups are dedicated to:
Women’s Rights, Human Rights, Union and Non-Union Labor
Rights,
Averting Environmental Destruction, Affordable Housing,
Health Care Reform, Veterans Health Care,
Educational Reform, Media Reform,
Peace Activism, Iraq War Opposition,
and Campaign Finance Reform,
These and many more groups and organizations shall be
mobilized:
1. We shall mobilize these organizations by groups and
sub-groups, nationally, regionally, and from every
state.
2. From this mobilization of organizations, a steering
committee shall form a National Convention Coalition.
3. From this National Convention Coalition, qualified
individuals shall be nominated to form an ad hoc
National Convention.
4. From these qualified individuals an ad hoc National
Convention shall be formed.
5. The method used to form that Convention shall be:
A) The number of delegates needed to constitute the
National Convention, shall be determined by the
Steering Committee;
B) 60% of those delegates shall be chosen by lot;
C) 40% of those delegates shall be selected by skills,
group, and region, to give balance to, and increase
the professionalism and efficiency of the ad hoc
National Convention;
D) Staff and replacements for the ad hoc National
Convention, shall be chosen in the same manner from
another lot of qualified individuals.
6. The ad hoc National Convention shall be an extra-legal legislative body.
7. The ad hoc National Convention shall legislate our
federal elections campaign finance reform
constitutional amendment.
8. The remaining qualified individuals, and National
Convention Coalition Groups, shall proceed to create
city, county, and states organizations dedicated to the
National Convention, and from which States Conventions
shall be formed, to ratify the Molly Ivins
Constitutional Amendment.
